Advanced technologies ensure top quality and optimum value for money. You get the quality boat at an affordable price. This is the key principle of manufacture of inflatable BARK boats which we follow at all production cycles, from engineering design to quality control.

An accurate engineering design

Study of customers' feedback; conformity to the International standards (they are basic for us and to be exceeded); the monitoring of innovations in the field of inflatable boat’s production. These are the fundamentals for the research and development of BARK inflatable boats. When we elaborate an engineering design, we use the special software which allows us to simulate the performance of the inflatable boat in different situations like it is in the case study. We choose the best versions of design at this stage. Following the trials of inflatable boat’s prototypes we make the final choice.

The aforesaid principles supplemented by know-how make it possible to create such a design which ensures the manufacture of PVC BARK boats with the following advantages:

Raised pointed bow improves the performance of an inflatable boat. Such an inflatable boat has a better steerability and a higher speed performance than the one with a bold bow rigged with the same motor. It should be noted that PVC BARK inflatable boats of BN series (with the most pointed bow) are faster than the majority of pleasure inflatable boats, being quite close to racing boats. BARK inflatable boats of other series have a streamlined bow, making the crossing of water waves more comfortable. And still they are faster than pleasure inflatable boats of other brands. According to our customers BARK inflatable motor boats have won a number of unofficial racings.

Some models of BARK inflatable boats have an increased tube diameter compared to a standard diameter of vessels of other brands. This is the reason why BARK inflatable boats have a better buoyancy and stability. According to the International standards, the tubes of BARK boats have compartments. The number of compartments depends upon the model of a BARK boat and ranges from 2 to 5, not counting an inflatable keel available in the keel motor boats. Cone-shaped partition-membrane ensures pressure balance inside of the compartments.

Transom fastening. The boats with the attached portable transom are fitted with the proven lacing-type fastening. The position of fastening ensures the optimal arrangement of a motor, with the speed performance of a boat being unaltered. This principle is applied in BARK inflatable boats with the stationary transom whose angle is adjusted for the concrete model and is dependable upon the horsepower of a motor and the type of the boat’s underside – a keel inflatable boat or a flatboat.

The stationary transom is fastened by a tape consisting of 2-layer high density fabric. We do not use the prefabricated transom holders because they do not meet our safety standards. Perhaps our safety standards are too stringent but the practice shows that quality prefabricated transom holders do not rule out the loss of a transom and of a motor in running mode. Even the quality prefabricated transom holders are not secure because they have an insufficient width of the flanged seam in which the transom is attached. They can hardly withstand deformation caused by forces applied by a running motor. On the contrary, our fastening is load resistant and secure, it holds the transom well.

Protective molding at the boat’s bottom. Inflatable keel motor boats normally have the protective molding. But you can hardly find the additional moldings along the junction between the underside and the boat sides. All types of BARK inflatable motor boats (both keel and flat-bottom ones) with the stationary transom are rigged with such moldings. These moldings protect the boat’s underside when a boat is dragged onshore or transported. Moreover they improve steerability of an inflatable boat at cornering.

Rigid flooring of the BARK keel motor boats is easy to assemble thanks to the use of streamlined locking profiles instead of normal profiles which you can usually find in the prefabricated floorings of inflatable boats of other brands.

Fastening of the movable seats available in some models of BARK inflatable boats is based on the leechrope – mast track technology. (Terms are borrowed from the sailing shipbuilding. The leechrope means a rope or a rod sewn in selvages for extra rigidity, easy fastening and safety reasons). BARK inflatable boats with movable seats have a leechrope consisting of the boat fabric tapes made of the reinforced PVC. The leechrope is quite durable to be load resistant and is user friendly at packaging.

Safety assembly of parts

We use hot adhesion technology for the gluing of seams and for the fastening of fittings (an adhesive sets hot.) The global practice shows that this is the best technology ensuring the top quality.

Gluing is the proven method of making fixed joints suitable for the fastening of fittings. Gluing and welding is applicable for seams of inflatable boat’s tubes. One distinction: welding ensures bond between materials on the molecular level, gluing involves the medium, i.e. an adhesive layer. Not all the materials (of the same physical and chemical origin) can be sealed. Amongst a great variety of polymers employed in production of inflatable boats only PVC can be welded. Boat fabrics with elastomeric coating are not subject to welding. For example, the chlorosulfonated polyethylene – hypalon in the form of the weldable film can not be sealed when it is in combination with the multi-layered, multi-polymeric boat fabric.

Hot air welding (“heat sealing”) is most suitable for boat fabrics. It ensures safety joints and structure of the material compared to a high frequency current welding (HFC welding) or ultrasonic. HFC welding (current heats the plate – “electrode” which heats the material) yields a good result if the material is heated uniformly. The modern equipment does not allow us to do so, particularly at the increased pace of welding. The boat fabric is multilayered and heterogenic. These properties of the boat fabric make ultrasonic welding (high frequency current transformed in ultrasound “destabilizes” the molecules of the material) unpredictable – molecules are “shaked” and bonded irregularly. In spite of this fact some producers of inflatable boats experiment with the ultrasonic welding. The cold welding (solvent based) is also in use. It is like a gluing but instead of an adhesive polymeric layer the solvent dissolves the materials making their molecules bonded. It may cause damage of the materials and loss of their original properties. Therefore the chemical welding is not suitable for fastening of fittings.

At the beginning we used to seal the seams with the help of hot air. Because the modern boat PVC fabrics are modified by elastomers, we decided not to risk and chose the hot welding. It ensures the durable connection preserving the original properties of the material. It should be noted that we use the glue made by our fellow countryman from Dnepropetrovsk. We employ the special kind of glue compatible with our materials. This is the additional warranty of bond strength proven in BARK inflatable boats.

Design of the seam – butt seam attached on the seaming tape made of the boat fabric. The second tape attached on top of the original seam (it is not necessary according to the standard, but it strengthens the seam making it more precise). The global practice shows that this design of the seam is the most durable.


Even though you can automate the majority of production processes, the global and our own practice shows that the handcraft helps achieve the best quality. This is the reason why handcraft is employed in high tech, with the sophisticated products involved.

Thanks to the professional skills of the stuff and the aforesaid prerequisites BARK inflatable boats are of top quality which is hardly achievable with machines.

The layout of BARK inflatable boats is hand made because the modern machines, be it a cutting plotter or a laser equipment, are subject to frequent failures, the accuracy of adjustment for the certain types of material is not guaranteed.

Multilevel quality control

Manufacture of inflatable boats is certified by Shipping Register of Ukraine who keep BARK inflatable boats under control. The Shipping Register of Ukraine approves designs of inflatable vessels, carries out regular inspection of the production facility and verifies the quality of products

It is done in combination with the stringent in-house quality control of every production cycle. For example, the quality of tubes is inspected at least four times. First goes the leakage check by way of inflation followed by deflation. After 24-hour rest the tube is inflated repeatedly, with pressure being 3 times higher than rated operating one. The inflated tube rests for 24 hours. A finished inflatable boat is also subject to 24 – hour leakage check after the bottom has been attached and glued to a body. The final leakage check is fulfilled prior to handover of consignment to Register’s inspectors.
